The Councilor for Festivities, José Domingo Castro, and the senior brother of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, Javier Valbuena, have presented the program of recreational and religious events. This year, the celebration takes on a special character as it marks 150 years since the start of worship activities linked to Jesus Day, dating back to 1876. As a significant novelty, the procession on September 14 will feature the image of Mary Magdalene, coinciding with her centenary.
The religious program will begin with a triduum to Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno on September 11, 12, and 13, at 8:30 PM, in the conventual church of San Francisco. The eucharists will be presided over by the Reverend Francisco Solano Aguilar Tejada. On Sunday the 13th, at 6:00 PM, the traditional presentation of children born during the year will take place.
On Monday the 14th, the day will start at 6:00 AM with a 'diana floreada' (flourished dawn) by the Roman Centuria of the Brotherhood. At 7:30 AM, the Dawn Mass will be celebrated, presided over by Reverend José María Capellán. Later, at 10:30 AM, the conventual church of San Francisco will host the Principal Feast of the Institute, presided over by the brotherhood's chaplain, Francisco Salvador Flores Hidalgo.
The afternoon of September 14 will conclude with the procession, scheduled for 7:00 PM. The route has been modified due to ongoing works in Amador de los Ríos street. After leaving San Francisco church, the procession will pass through Puerta Córdoba, Plaza Francisco Valverde y Perales, calle Alta, calle Mesones, Plaza de la Constitución, Calderón Herránz Casado, and Amador de los Ríos, before continuing via calle del Moral “Pablito Lucena”, calle Mesones, Plaza Francisco Valverde y Perales, and Puerta Córdoba, finally returning to San Francisco.
For its part, the City Council has organized festive events for Sunday, September 13, the eve of Jesus Day, in Plaza de Palacio. From 10:00 PM to 11:30 PM, DJ Edo will perform. At 11:30 PM, the traditional 'toro de fuego' (fire bull) will take place, followed by fireworks and a sound and light show.
At midnight, the image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno will be projected onto the castle tower. The party will continue with a cover concert by Trueno Azul, live, and DJ Edo will return until 3:00 AM. The Hermandad de San Pedro will set up a bar with popular prices.
