The University of Cádiz (UCA) hosted a key meeting this week for professionals from 13 Spanish universities. The objective was to share the experience gained by UCA and the SEA-EU university alliance in the design, accreditation, and implementation of joint European degrees. The activity took place in a micro-credential format, combining in-person and online participation.
The event attracted 22 in-person participants and 15 online, prompting the organization to schedule a second edition for next November. This new session will coincide with the UEUE (Spanish Universities in European Universities) meeting, reinforcing the commitment to academic internationalization.
Jointly organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Degrees and Quality and the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization of UCA, the training aims to transfer the knowledge acquired in launching international programs. These initiatives are part of the workstreams promoted by the European Commission's European Universities initiative.
During the sessions, university representatives addressed crucial aspects such as academic governance, quality systems, student mobility, international accreditation processes, and inter-institutional coordination. The opening of the meeting featured interventions from the Vice-Rector for Degrees and Quality, Manuel Arcila, and the general coordinator of SEA-EU, Marcela Iglesias, who highlighted the importance of sharing both successes and encountered obstacles.
The SEA-EU alliance is currently developing joint programs at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. These include the bachelor's degree in Blue and Sustainable Economy and the master's in Port Logistics Management, both coordinated by UCA. A master's program focused on sustainability and organizational resilience and a doctoral program in collaboration with European universities are also underway.
Special attention was given to the accreditation process for these international degrees, applying the European Approach for joint evaluation by international panels. The workshops also analyzed academic design, administrative management of international students, and mobility strategies, as well as co-teaching and co-governance models.
The organization of this event solidifies the University of Cádiz as a benchmark in the implementation of joint European degrees, fostering academic cooperation and international recognition of qualifications.
