The San Fernando Quartermaster's Office has opened the bidding period for the rehabilitation works of the Cádiz Diving Unit (UNBIDIZ) headquarters, located at the Puntales base since 1983. The project, valued at over 124,000 euros, seeks to address the advanced state of deterioration of the property, particularly its facade.
The planned works include comprehensive facade repair, as well as the replacement of windows, grilles, gutters, and doors. Additionally, the renovation of the roof with a sandwich panel and facade waterproofing are contemplated. Indoors, repairs will be made to flooring, tiling, and interior doors, along with painting. The Navy will also be responsible for modernizing the fuel locker's ventilation system, integrating it with the fire suppression system.
The UNBIDIZ is a key unit dedicated to military diving and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), operating a 24/7 team for maritime and coastal interventions. Its work is fundamental for the maintenance of Navy units and coastal security, carrying out numerous operations throughout the year.
This rehabilitation is part of a broader modernization plan for the Puntales base. In late 2025, the Council of Ministers approved an investment of 14 million euros for these military facilities. This investment will enable the updating of service networks, the construction of an integrated land surveillance center, the improvement of lockers and workshops, and the dredging of the port to facilitate ship docking. These improvements are essential to accommodate the new hydrographic flotilla, which will include two vessels currently under construction at Navantia San Fernando.
