The Alimarket report on the supermarket sector in the province of Cádiz highlights the boost from local brands Ruiz Galán and Super Carmela. Both Cádiz-based companies led the growth in sales area surface during 2025, a year that concluded with a total commercial area of 427,307 square meters in the province, representing an annual expansion of 1.1%.
Super Carmela ranks sixth, having expanded its commercial space with a new 1,500 square meter store in Sanlúcar. Meanwhile, Ruiz Galán has consolidated its presence in the Campo de Gibraltar by acquiring four stores from Saginver in San Roque, Castellar, and Algeciras, adding 1,910 square meters, plus a new opening of 330 square meters in La Línea. With 9,933 square meters, it ranks as the third distributor in the region.
The report also notes Mercadona's leadership in Cádiz, with 50 stores and 79,937 square meters, holding an 18.2% share of the sales area. It is followed by Carrefour with 58 stores and 73,377 square meters (17.2% share). Huelva-based El Jamón ranks third with 57 stores and 53,058 square meters (12.4% share), followed by Dia (9.1%) and Lidl (5.8%).
The province of Cádiz lost a total of 7 stores in 2025. Business expansions and movements, such as the acquisition of Líder Aliment by Fragadis (affecting 7 commercial spaces) or the opening of a Grupo MAS store in Cádiz capital, are reshaping the distribution landscape. The provincial growth of 1.1% falls below the Andalusian average (1.3%).
