The presentation of the book Fifty Epigrams in Cádiz, by writer Mercedes Escolano, will take place on Thursday, May 14 at 8:30 PM at La Casapuerta de Luisa bar, located at Sagasta Street 40 in Cádiz. This cultural event will allow attendees to get a first-hand look at the author's satirical proposal.
The volume, published by Ediciones del Genial, brings together fifty short poems with a strong sarcastic character. In them, Escolano ironically addresses various aspects of the literary field, from the figure of “bad poets” to criticism of “terrible contests and anthologies,” using the traditional epigram format for her reflections.
“"The texts address figures such as “bad poets, bad editors, terrible contests and anthologies,” using the epigram format, traditionally associated with irony and satire."
La Casapuerta de Luisa bar has established itself as a cultural meeting point in the historic center of Cádiz, combining its hospitality activity with a stable program of literary and musical events. The choice of this space underscores its role as a driver of the city's cultural life.
The author, with a degree in Hispanic Philology from the University of Cádiz, has an extensive career in teaching and publishing. She has been a professor of Spanish Language and Literature in Andalusian institutes and has directed editorial projects such as the magazine Octaviana and the collection of poetic broadsides Siete Mares. Her poetic work has been recognized with awards such as the Luis de Góngora International Poetry Prize in 1986 and the Ciudad de Salamanca Poetry Prize in 2025.
