This deeply rooted traditional event will transform the municipality into a vibrant hub of festivities, drawing both residents and visitors. The program, detailed by the Olvera Town Council, promises a unique cultural and leisure experience, with the pilgrimage as its highlight.
The origins of this celebration date back to 1715, when a severe drought devastated Olvera. The inhabitants, in their desperation, implored the Virgin of Los Remedios for rain. After carrying the image of the Virgin from her sanctuary to the town and dedicating a festival in her honor, rainfall finally arrived. Since then, the tradition of honoring the Virgin with a pilgrimage on the second Monday after Easter Sunday was established, commemorating the miracle.
Although the Quasimodo Cross Country Race, in its 30th edition, already took place on Wednesday, April 8 as a prelude, the official start of the Fair will be on Friday, April 10 at 9:00 PM with the traditional lighting ceremony at the fairgrounds. Saturday, April 11, will feature a horse gathering and a ribbon race. On Sunday, April 12, a floral offering to the Virgin of Los Remedios will be held at her sanctuary, accompanied by the Olvera Senior Choir, followed by a popular snack.
The central day, Monday, April 13, will be marked by the reception of the Simpecado of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios and the blessing of pilgrims by the parish priest, D. José Arjona, at the Church of La Victoria. Subsequently, a procession of floats and pilgrims will accompany the Virgin to her sanctuary. The day will conclude with the Mass of the Vow and contests for traditional hornazos and sopas pegás. The closing of the Fair will be on Tuesday, April 14, with Children's Day featuring popular prices for attractions.
