The Fundación Unicaja, in collaboration with the College of Architects of Cádiz, presents a new series dedicated to Architecture at its Cádiz Terrace. Titled 'Architecture, Landscape, and Territory', the event will bring together renowned professionals to discuss the connection between the built environment and human experience.
The inaugural conference, scheduled for Tuesday, June 23rd, at 8:30 PM, will feature José Ignacio Linazasoro, a leading figure in European architecture, who recently received the Gold Medal for Architecture 2026. Linazasoro is also an Honorary Member of the College of Architects of Cádiz.
His lecture, 'Contextual Architecture', will explore architecture as a discipline continuously measured against the past, preserving the place's memory without succumbing to historicism. Linazasoro's career includes extensive professional work recognized internationally, significant teaching as a professor and guest lecturer at various universities, and active participation in disseminating architectural thought through publications.
Among his notable projects are the Ikastola in Hondarribia, the restoration of the Santa Cruz church in Medina de Rioseco, the UNED library, and the Escuelas Pías Cultural Center in Madrid, among others.
The series will continue with contributions from architects such as Zaida Muxí (July 23rd), focusing on inclusive cities; José Ramón Sierra (August 27th), who will advocate for the value of traditional knowledge; and Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz (September 24th), who will conclude the series by reflecting on the challenges of building outside Spain in different cultural and social contexts.
The opening conference will take place at the Fundación Unicaja Terrace, located at Calle San Francisco, 26. Entry is free until capacity is reached, and the session will be moderated by Tomás Carranza, an architect doctor and head of the Training and Culture Area at the College of Architects of Cádiz.
