Weather forecasts have caused concern among attendees of the Horse Fair 2026, held in Jerez. Just days before the official lighting at González Hontoria, local authorities have decided to heighten precautions due to the possibility of precipitation.
The Local Territorial Emergency Plan will be activated this Thursday, May 7, at 09:00 AM, entering a pre-emergency phase and operational status 0. This measure will remain active until 11:59 PM on Sunday, May 17, and includes specific provisions to address adverse weather conditions during the Fair's opening.
“"Adverse weather forecasts require special vigilance to act as immediately and coordinately as possible in case of an incident."
The decision was made during the Technical Security Board, coordinated by the deputy mayor for Security. Special attention has been given to Saturday, May 9, the day of the official lighting and fireworks display, as well as the preceding days for booth setup and supplier access to the fairgrounds.
Additionally, a virtual Operational Coordination Center (Cecop) with hybrid capabilities and a physical space at Ifeca will be established for decision-making if necessary. Booth operators have been warned to take extra precautions with their structures against potential rain or wind-related incidents.
The security plan also accounts for other large-scale events coinciding on Saturday, such as the match between Xerez CD and Conquense at Chapín, and a basketball tournament at the Sports Palace. The Local Police, National Police, Civil Protection, and volunteers will coordinate a specific operation to manage access and exits to the fairgrounds, particularly in the attractions area and during the moments before and after the lighting ceremony.
