The Congress Palace in La Línea will be the venue for this forum, named Forte Cultura 2026, which will take place from April 21 to 24. The event, supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Junta de Andalucía, and the Diputación de Cádiz, will gather 45 specialized attendees from various European nations.
Promoted by the European network Forte Cultura and sponsored by the City Council of La Línea de la Concepción, the congress will feature technical representation from countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic, Portugal, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Spain. This event aims to strengthen La Línea's international projection within the European Network of Fortified Monuments.
Over the four days, managers of European fortresses, specialized architects, historians, tourism consultants, and cultural route managers will discuss strategies to transform defensive heritage into an economic and tourist engine. Topics will include the conservation and promotion of local historical enclaves, such as Santa Bárbara Fort and 20th-century bunkers, key elements for the city's tourism offerings.
The congress will also explore ways to secure European funding, design international routes, and present ancient fortifications as places of memory, coexistence, and culture. This institutional support is crucial for the advancement of the Andalucía Cluster, an initiative that seeks to connect Andalusian fortifications under a common strategy of sustainable tourism and heritage valorization.
The City Council is keeping registration open for the presentations scheduled for April 22, with free access upon email request.
“"The objective is to consolidate the fortifications of La Línea as a tourist product capable of attracting international visitors and generating wealth for the city."
