The incident occurred in the early hours of last Monday, around 3:25 AM, when the 091 control room received an alarm notification. Security cameras at the station, owned by one of the country's leading operators and located in the southern district of Jerez, detected the presence of several individuals inside the premises.
Immediately, several National Police patrols were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a hooded man inside the fenced enclosure, handling large coils of cable. The suspect had forced the perimeter fencing and security doors to gain access to the facilities.
Noticing the police presence, the individual attempted to flee by jumping over the outer fence, approximately three meters high, as well as an anti-theft protection structure. However, he was intercepted and arrested for an alleged crime of robbery with force.
The police intervention led to the recovery of over 400 kilograms of copper cable. Additionally, officers seized various tools used in the theft and located a vehicle nearby that had already been loaded with some of the stolen material. The theft of this material could have left nearly 100,000 residents in the southern, eastern, and part of the urban center of Jerez de la Frontera without telephone service.
