A new incident on the AP-4 highway, connecting Seville and Cádiz, has once again highlighted traffic difficulties on this route, particularly during the summer period. The event occurred at 10:15 AM, according to the General Directorate of Traffic, near kilometer 43.
As a result of the lost cargo, which consisted of glass plates, the right lane in the direction of Cádiz has been closed to traffic while Civil Guard officers and road maintenance personnel attend to the scene. This incident underscores the challenges faced by the AP-4, a key route between the two provinces, which is experiencing increased traffic tension and a lack of alternative exits.
The incident coincides with the ongoing debate about the AP-4 expansion. The current project is limited to a section between Dos Hermanas and Las Cabezas de San Juan in the province of Seville, prompting calls from Cádiz for the improvements to extend to the Gaditan capital. Representatives from the central government have indicated that the aspiration is for the infrastructure to eventually reach the province of Cádiz.
To ease traffic flow during the summer months, the DGT and the Ministry of Transport have relaunched the 'dynamic shoulder' measure. This year, the length of the enabled section has been extended to nearly 7 kilometers, up from 3.4 kilometers last year, in the stretch before the exit of Las Cabezas de San Juan. This initiative aims to benefit drivers heading towards Lebrija, Trebujena, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
