After just five weeks on the Cádiz CF bench, Imanol Idiakez has become the most authoritative voice in assessing the dressing room's situation. His arrival, driven by a request from the captains to president Manuel Vizcaíno due to the precarious state under the previous coach, has brought about a noticeable change in the team, despite initial results that didn't always reflect the improvement.
The debut against Las Palmas, with a goal from Joaquín, showed an initial good performance, although the Canary Islanders' superiority eventually led to a comeback. Subsequently, the team drew against Cultural Leonesa and lost at home to Dépor. However, the positive dynamic solidified with a crucial point at Castalia against Castellón and a resounding victory over Leganés, thus securing their permanence.
With the objective achieved, Idiakez's future at the Cadiz club is open for discussion with the board. Despite having a contract for the next campaign, the Basque coach will have the opportunity to discuss with president Vizcaíno the vision for the 2026/2027 season's squad.
The coach will need to avoid the mistakes of his predecessors, Paco López and Gaizka Garitano, who were handed unbalanced or inexperienced squads. Idiakez, with deep knowledge of the current team, must present a detailed report to guide the creation of a project that aligns with the desired identity for Cádiz CF next season, giving the coach a voice in transfer decisions.
