The image, part of the decoration of a former business at the intersection of Sagasta and Benjumeda, has been a recognizable landmark for residents and visitors. The page Cádiz Abandonada was among the first to publicly lament the deterioration of this piece.
According to sources from the Cádiz City Council, initial investigations suggest the incident was not an act of vandalism but rather the tile falling off. A local resident alerted authorities after collecting the fragments.
“"We will try to restore it so that it can return to its place. Because even if it is not a valuable tile from a heritage perspective, it is valuable as a symbolic memory of the city's commerce."
The city council has expressed its intention to restore the artwork, acknowledging its symbolic and sentimental value for the city's commercial history, despite its intrinsic heritage value not being high.
