The incident originated in the ship's chimney area while foreign companies subcontracted by Royal Caribbean were carrying out interior renovation work. The rapid activation of the fire protocol in dry dock 4 of the shipyard prevented the flames from spreading, controlling the situation without major complications.
Sources from Navantia confirmed to LA VOZ that the fire occurred during these tasks, generating a visible column of smoke. It is important to note that the shipyard's workers are responsible for the exterior renovation of the cruise ship, while the internal modifications are the responsibility of other companies directly contracted by the shipping line.
The Harmony of the Seas is undergoing a comprehensive renovation involving more than 1,200 workers. Among the most relevant actions are the expansion of cabins and a thorough review of the hull, shafts, anchors, and other machinery.
This is not the first time the Harmony of the Seas has visited the Navantia facilities in Cádiz. The cruise ship was already in the dry dock in April 2021 for a technical stop, where work was carried out on propellers, thrusters, stabilizers, and bottom valves, in addition to painting.
