The province of Cádiz concluded the 2025/2026 school year with a total of 19,038 interventions and activities carried out by the Reference Nurse for Educational Centers (ERCE), under the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). This initiative reached 285,063 students, highlighting the consolidation of this collaborative model between the healthcare and education sectors.
In the province of Cádiz, 54 primary care professionals from the Health Management Areas of Jerez, Costa Noroeste and Sierra de Cádiz (21), Campo de Gibraltar East (5), Campo de Gibraltar West (6), and Bahía de Cádiz-La Janda Health District (22) are responsible for this work. Their efforts focus on health promotion and disease prevention in schools, fostering healthy lifestyles and supporting children and adolescents in key aspects of their well-being.
The activities conducted by these professionals, covering topics such as self-care, accident prevention, sexuality, emotional education, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and positive technology use, demonstrate that health promotion is an integral part of school life from an early age. They also provide individual counseling to students on health-related matters.
By health area, Jerez, Costa-Noroeste, and Sierra de Cádiz recorded 6,047 interventions for 94,540 students. Campo de Gibraltar West performed 4,886 interventions, reaching 67,858 students. Campo de Gibraltar East carried out 3,460 interventions for 42,622 students, while the Bahía de Cádiz-La Janda District added 4,645 interventions and 80,023 students.
The territorial delegate for Health, Eva Pajares, praised the professionals' work, recalling that the ERCE was established during the pandemic to control COVID-19 in schools and has since become a consolidated resource for health promotion and education.
