Ground preparation work at the Portillo site in Cádiz has begun, preceding the formal construction of the new Fernando Portillo sports center. This project, with a cost of 19.1 million euros, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2029, after a construction period of two and a half years.
These provisional tasks, termed Phase 0 by the Junta de Andalucía, focus on clearing and preparing the land. The site, which has been unused and without a defined project since 2008, was recently visited by the mayor and several council members, who highlighted its state of neglect.
The construction will be formally inaugurated on Monday, July 27. The new sports facility will feature three underground parking levels with capacity for 389 vehicles, a 263-square-meter ground-floor space with its use yet to be determined by the City Council, and a sports hall with a multipurpose court and seating for 2,105 spectators.
