The municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera is preparing to host its first Orchard Festival on Saturday, April 18, an event designed to highlight and promote locally grown agricultural products, thereby boosting the primary sector.

This initiative stems from the collaboration agreement signed in November 2025 between the Chiclana City Council and the Sociedad Cooperativa Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes. The celebration will take place in Plaza de Las Bodegas starting at 12:00, offering attendees the opportunity to discover the diversity of local fruits and vegetables.
The municipal delegate for Economic Development, Manuela Pérez, presented the event alongside Bartolomé Ramírez, president of the cooperative. The program includes an exhibition of products, a cooking contest featuring produce from Chiclana's orchards, tastings, and musical performances.

"We want to promote and give visibility to these products and to the importance of the orchard and the primary sector in our municipality."

Manuela Pérez · Municipal Delegate for Economic Development
Pérez emphasized the economic importance of the sector, which generates over 3,000 tons of horticultural products of more than thirty different varieties in Chiclana, valued at over 2 million euros. The exhibition, arranged as a still life, will be donated by the Las Virtudes Cooperative.
The cooking contest will allow 15 teams to participate, who must prepare two dishes in 45 minutes. The rules for this competition will be available on the Fomento website. Additionally, a pisto tasting will be offered for 1,000 people, with ingredients also provided by Las Virtudes.

"For us, there are no borders, and Chiclana's orchard is just another part of Cooperativa de Las Virtudes, which is why we want to encourage vegetable consumption."

Bartolomé Ramírez · President of Sociedad Cooperativa Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes
Ramírez, for his part, highlighted that the collaboration with the City Council began over a year ago, thanks to the interest of Mayor José María Román. He concluded by stating that “the best still life Chiclana has are the stalls at the Mercado de Abastos” (Supply Market).
