The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced the completion of improvement works on the N-340, between kilometers 9.4 and 15.4, in Chiclana. This initiative, representing an investment of 4.6 million euros and financed by European funds from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, transforms nearly six kilometers of the road to promote more sustainable mobility and enhance coexistence among vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The work has resulted in the construction of new two-meter-wide sidewalks and a 2.5-meter-wide cycle lane on the right side of the road, connecting the Pelagatos Industrial Estate with the San Andrés Golf area. Two new roundabouts have been added, located in front of Venta Campano and San Andrés Golf, to improve road safety by replacing previous intersections. Additionally, new stops for urban buses have been established near Venta Campano.
The project also incorporates accessible pedestrian crossings, specific lighting for the roundabouts, cycle lane, and sidewalks, as well as a concrete parapet to protect pedestrians and cyclists from vehicular traffic.
Beyond mobility, rest areas equipped with wooden sheds, benches, and bins have been created, along with a green corridor parallel to the cycle lane and sidewalk to better integrate the infrastructure into its surroundings. The works also included resurfacing with sound-absorbing material to reduce noise pollution, improvements to surface drainage, and the renewal of all horizontal and vertical signage.
