The lead candidates from various political parties for the province of Cádiz attended their respective polling stations on Sunday morning, May 17th, as part of the 2026 Andalusian Elections. Following an intense campaign, the candidates used this final opportunity to appeal to voters before the polling stations close later this evening.
The PSOE candidate for the Andalusian Parliament in Cádiz, Juan Cornejo, voted in his hometown, Medina Sidonia. Cornejo described the day as "a happy and beautiful day for all democrats," emphasizing that Andalusians and those from Cádiz "will freely choose who represents them in parliament and who governs them." He added that "Andalusians themselves will write their present and future, and no one else."
Meanwhile, the candidate for the presidency of the Junta for Adelante Andalucía, José Ignacio García, cast his vote in Jerez. Accompanied by party members and his mother, García highlighted the importance of voting "for all those who for decades have given their lives so that we have the right to vote today." He stressed that election day is the only time "we are all equal," unlike "bankers, business power, and those who pull the strings" the rest of the year, and therefore "we call for participation and for everything to proceed normally."
The candidate for Vox for the Presidency of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Gavira, voted at the San Vicente de Paul school in Cádiz. Gavira reiterated his "national priority" message and appealed for Andalusian votes to achieve a government "that gets involved in the mess," stating that "Andalusians deserve to be more than last or second to last."
The lead candidate for Por Andalucía in the regional Parliament, Esperanza Gómez, voted at the Servicio Andaluz de Salud headquarters in Cádiz. Gómez encouraged "everyone to vote," recalling that in a democratic state, "the only day when we are all equal" is election day. She emphasized the importance of voting so that Andalusians "decide the destiny of Andalusia, and it is not decided for us."
