The Casa de Iberoamérica hosted the unveiling of the Glorias 2026 poster, a creation by the Cádiz-born artist Antonio Álvarez del Pino. The painting stands out for its vibrant use of color and light, elements that aim to convey the joy experienced by the pilgrims of Cádiz during their annual journey to the village of El Rocío.
The central theme of the poster is the cart of the Rocío de Cádiz brotherhood, with the enthroned Simpecado, being pulled by mules through the sandy terrain of Coto de Doñana. The painter explained that the choice of this theme was not accidental, mentioning a providential connection with the year 2026, when the Cádiz City Council had previously commissioned him to paint a votive candle for the same brotherhood.
This is the third poster for the Glorias created by Álvarez del Pino, having completed the previous two in 2015 and two years later. The artist highlighted that this new work, created eleven years later, also reflects his artistic evolution.
“"God writes with crooked or straight lines."
During the event, the herald for the Glorias de 2026, the elder brother of Rocío, was also officially introduced. He announced that his proclamation would be dedicated to the Virgin Mary. He expressed gratitude for the support of the Cádiz City Council to the Gloria brotherhoods, especially for the use of the Teatro del Títere for the proclamation on Sunday, April 26th, at 12 noon, while also requesting more financial support.
The president of the Council of Brotherhoods, along with the deputy mayor for Culture, thanked the artist and the herald for their dedication, as well as the efforts of all the Gloria brotherhoods in keeping the faith alive in the streets of Cádiz.
