The construction of the Fernando Portillo Pavilion, with a budget of 19,183,822.72 euros and an execution period of 30 months, will be awarded in an extraordinary session of the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD) of the Cadiz City Council. This step marks the beginning of the definitive phase for the construction of a long-awaited infrastructure in the city.
Three companies participated in the bidding process, although one was excluded for not submitting all required documentation. Ultimately, two offers reached the final phase, from which the award will be decided. The project's funding is fully secured, with a contribution of five million euros from the Provincial Council of Cadiz, adding to an initial allocation of 5.5 million euros and nearly nine million from treasury surpluses.
The project has undergone significant evolution in recent years. In 2023, only the basic project for the underground car park existed. Subsequently, the complete execution project for the pavilion was drafted, funding was secured, and the bidding documents were prepared. Following the scheduled award, the next step will be the formalization of the contract to commence work.
The future pavilion will have a capacity for 2,105 spectators, distributed with 1,042 seats in the lower section, 310 in the upper section, 728 in an extendable grandstand, and 25 designated for the press. In terms of sports facilities, the building will feature a longitudinal court suitable for futsal and handball, as well as three transversal basketball courts and one longitudinal, along with three transversal volleyball courts. The design includes six changing rooms for teams and three additional ones for referees.
The project also incorporates a three-story underground car park with capacity for 389 vehicles and a commercial area exceeding 263 square meters. According to municipal information, the pavilion has been designed with accessibility and sustainability criteria, achieving an A energy rating. It is estimated that, if deadlines are met, the infrastructure could be completed in approximately two and a half years from the effective start of construction.
