From early afternoon, the beaches of the province of Cádiz began to see a larger than usual crowd for mid-summer. Attendees brought chairs, tables, and various provisions to enjoy the astronomical event by the sea, many equipped with recently purchased protective glasses.
In the capital city, La Caleta became one of the favorite meeting points for those who did not want to miss the eclipse. The Quiñones Promenade also saw a large concentration of people, and several hundred made their way to the San Sebastián Castle, considered an ideal vantage point for observation.
At 8:38 PM, when the eclipse reached its maximum, those present broke into a small applause, commenting that the phenomenon resembled an "early sunset".
