The COAC Participation Council and the street festival council met this Thursday in the Government Board Hall of the Cádiz City Council. The session, chaired by Mayor Bruno García and Deputy Mayor for Festivities, Beatriz Gandullo, was attended by representatives from municipal groups such as the PSOE and Adelante Izquierda Gaditana, as well as various carnival associations, including choristers, comparsistas, cuarteteros, chirigoteros, the youth section (cantera), Cádiz, woman and Carnival, the honorary assembly of Golden Masks, the Carnival Culture Classroom, and the Carnival Artisans association.
During the meeting, a review of the 2026 Carnival was conducted, which was marked by the cancellation of two sessions due to a train accident in Adamuz and a storm. These incidents required rescheduling sessions, decisions managed with the collaboration of all collectives involved in the COAC. Furthermore, planning for the next contest began, with its final scheduled for February 5, making it a very early edition. It was agreed to hold future meetings to have the programming for next year's contest defined before summer.
The Deputy Mayor for Festivities and Carnival, Beatriz Gandullo, presented several initiatives for the upcoming Carnival, stemming from proposals by the collectives. One of the main changes is to move the presentation of the Golden Masks to before the Carnival celebration, a measure agreed upon with the assembly of honorees. Additionally, it was announced that the award ceremonies for the youth section and adults will be held separately, allowing each category to have its own gala with performances by their respective groups.
Finally, information was provided on the launch of the project ‘Conociendo el templo’ (Knowing the Temple), in collaboration with the Youth Association and the Authors' Association. Aimed at children participating in the festival, this program will take place on December 20, 26, and 27. Its dual objective is to promote emotional well-being and cultural and heritage aspects, seeking to ensure that early familiarization of young people with the Falla Theater and its history transforms anxiety into excitement and respect, connecting them with local culture. The program will include guided tours of 45-60 minutes through the theater's lobby, stalls, wings, dressing rooms, and upper gallery.
