The innovative Incubazul building in the Cádiz Free Trade Zone, constructed from recycled shipping containers, has been nominated for the prestigious FAD Awards 2026 for Architecture and Interior Design, solidifying its national and international recognition.

This project, designed by the Cádiz-based studio Carquero Arquitectura, has become a benchmark for its originality and sustainable approach. The structure, located in the outer industrial park of the Cádiz Free Trade Zone, houses a business incubator dedicated to the Blue Economy, promoting sustainable activities related to the ocean.
The FAD Awards, considered the most important architecture and interior design accolades in Spain and Portugal, will announce their finalists between May and June, with the awards ceremony scheduled for June 17 in Barcelona. These awards evaluate the most outstanding proposals in categories such as Architecture, Interior Design, City and Landscape, and Ephemeral Interventions, serving as a barometer for industry trends.

"The FAD Awards are considered an annual benchmark for measuring the state of the discipline and anticipating trends."

The Incubazul building, inaugurated last September, has received multiple distinctions in its few months of existence. It recently earned a mention in the Sánchez Esteve and Torres Clavé Awards from the Cádiz College of Architects and was selected among 209 projects for the Architecture Awards 2026 by the Superior Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain, which values sustainability and environmental commitment.
The construction stands out for its aesthetic of volumes created from 65 recycled shipping containers, combining indoor and outdoor spaces. Red, white, yellow, and blue colors dominate its design, providing brightness and a sense of spaciousness, ideal for the more than twenty embryonic companies it hosts, focusing on sectors such as aquaculture, marine biotechnology, and offshore renewable energies.
