The city of Cádiz joins the commemoration of the Week for the Persecuted Church, an initiative aiming to shed light on the difficult reality faced by Christians in various parts of the world. The foundation Aid to the Church in Need has chosen the parish of Santo Tomás as the focal point for the scheduled events.
Throughout the week, each day will focus on a specific country where the free practice of the Catholic faith is not possible, instead being a cause for discrimination, imprisonment, or even violence. Faithful will be able to participate in praying the rosary at 7:30 PM for the corresponding nation, followed by a brief introduction on its situation during the subsequent mass.
“"We will pray on Monday for China, on Tuesday for Haiti, on Wednesday for Nigeria, on Thursday for Syria, and on Friday for the Holy Land."
The delegate of ACN in Cádiz , María Teresa Rosety , emphasized that the objective is to "bring to the faithful, and to anyone who wishes to participate, the reality in which they live their faith in various parts of the world." In addition to prayer, other activities have been planned to address the material needs of this "suffering, persecuted, and poor Church."
A significant moment will be the visit of Franciscan friar Fadi Azar , born in Amman (Jordan ) and with pastoral experience in Syria since 2015. On Thursday, after mass at Santo Tomás , he will share his testimony about his work in the country, where Christians face persecution. On Friday, Fadi Azar will also offer his testimony in San Fernando .
On Tuesday, a special prayer vigil will be held for Haiti , one of the five countries in focus for the week. Donations will be accepted to support needy Christian communities.
