Next Tuesday, April 28, the Municipal Women's Foundation of the Cádiz City Council will hold a special event to remember the writer and educator Josefina Aldecoa. The initiative, part of the Women of Literature program, will feature a continuous reading of her novel Mujeres de negro.
The event will take place in Plaza del Palillero, in front of the foundation's headquarters, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This activity is one of several promoted by the foundation to foster effective equality between men and women, encouraging a shift in social values and habits.
Since 2024, the Women of Literature program has developed various cultural activities aimed at all citizens, with the goal of disseminating the work and trajectory of prominent universal literary authors. The reading, titled With Her Own Voice, is held in April to coincide with Book Day.
This year, the spotlight is on Josefina Aldecoa, one of the most influential voices in 20th-century Spanish narrative. Her work is characterized by a deep focus on historical memory and the role of women in society. Born in 1926 in La Robla (León), Aldecoa shared her university education with significant figures of the 1950s generation.
In addition to her role as a novelist, Aldecoa was a strong advocate for education, founding the Colegio Estilo. Her literary output addresses themes such as childhood, teaching, and, particularly, the experiences of women throughout the 20th century. The event will feature representatives from various fields, who will take turns reading, offering literary role models to young girls and women and highlighting female experiences through literature.
