The Andalusian club communicated on Wednesday the decision by the Board of Directors to part ways with the Catalan coach, who had returned to the club on March 9. Along with González, assistant coach Carlos Sánchez and fitness coach Sergio Dorado have also been relieved of their duties.
In his second spell leading the team, Sergio González secured a victory in his debut against CD Mirandés (0-2) on March 13. However, since that win, the team from Cádiz has suffered six consecutive defeats, scoring only two goals and conceding fifteen.
“"The club wishes to thank the entire coaching staff for their professionalism and work during this second period at the club and wishes them good luck in their professional future."
Currently, Cádiz CF is in eighteenth place in the LaLiga Hypermotion 2025-26 table, with 38 points, placing them just three points above the relegation zone. The team's next fixture will be on Monday, April 27, against UD Las Palmas, a rival fighting for promotion.
Speculation suggests that Imanol Idiakez could be the replacement for Sergio González, who, despite a promising start, failed to turn around the team's delicate situation, which remains in the lower part of the standings.
