The decision was made public this Wednesday, just hours after the previous coach's dismissal. The new coach, of Basque origin, has already conducted his first training session at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Bahía de Cádiz, known as El Rosal.
“"Cádiz CF and the new coach have reached an agreement for his incorporation as first-team coach until the end of the season."
With an extensive career as both a player and a coach, the new manager has been with clubs such as Real Zaragoza, Villarreal, Leganés, and Deportivo de La Coruña. During the current season, he was in charge of AEK Larnaca in Cyprus, a club he returned to for a third spell, winning the Super Cup and reaching the Europa League round of 16.
The coach, born in San Sebastián 54 years ago, trained as a midfielder in the Real Sociedad reserve team in the early nineties. His playing career was mainly in the defunct Segunda B, with a brief stint in Segunda División with Ciudad de Murcia.
In his coaching role, he also began his journey with the Real Sociedad reserve team, then went on to manage teams like Poli Ejido, Guijuelo, Real Unión, Toledo, and Lleida Esportiu in Segunda B, before moving up to Segunda División with Real Zaragoza, Leganés, and Dépor. He also served as assistant coach for Villarreal, being part of the team that lifted the Europa League.
The new coach arrives in Cádiz with the challenge of avoiding relegation, a mission the club has described as very difficult. His continuity will depend on whether he manages to keep the team in the category.
