The municipal museum space in Cádiz is reactivating its cultural agenda this April with a series of public proposals. Activities begin this Saturday, April 11, with the celebration of 'Del Carnaval de Cádiz y sus vinos, una cata cultural' (Of the Cadiz Carnival and its wines, a cultural tasting), an initiative previously held during the last Carnival week.
This event will take place in two sessions, at 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM, at the facilities of the Carnival House. Invitations can be collected from 11:00 AM on Thursday at the center itself, with a maximum of two per person.
The proposal combines a wine tasting with a tour of the center's exhibition collections. The activity will be led by journalist and wine and flamenco expert José María Castaño, who will provide narrative context on the carnival and oenological tradition. The guided tour will be conducted by Javier Osuna, biographer of 'El Tío de la Tiza', and Manuel López Cañamaque, researcher and author of various works on the festival.
During the tour, different historical stages of the Cadiz Carnival will be addressed, from its antecedents to the so-called Golden Age, as well as aspects related to some of the pieces that are part of the permanent exhibition. The activity will also include the musical interpretation of three tangos by a string trio, compositions by figures such as Antonio Rodríguez Martínez 'El Tío de la Tiza', Manuel López Cañamaque, and Paco Alba.
The program will continue on April 25 with a concert in the central courtyard of the Carnival House. Starting at 8:00 PM, the L'istesso Tempo Instrumental Camerata, directed by José Luis López Aranda, will present the narrated show 'Rapsodia de tangos' (Rhapsody of Tangos). The recital will include the interpretation of 18 tangos composed between 1890 and 1960, offering a journey through the musical evolution of the Cadiz Carnival. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.
With these initiatives, the municipal space resumes its cultural agenda after the central period of the festival, expanding the offer for residents and visitors interested in the history and heritage of the Cadiz Carnival. The Carnival House, located in the city's historic center, functions as an interpretation and dissemination center for this cultural manifestation, declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
