The Municipal Delegation of Culture of the Cádiz City Council will launch this June an initiative focused on the conservation and protection of bronze busts and sculptures located in various streets, parks, gardens, and avenues of the city.
This intervention on the municipal cultural heritage will start with a thorough cleaning of the pieces and their respective plaques. A stiff, non-metallic brush will be used to avoid scratching the patina or the bronze itself, removing impurities such as salinity, pollution, or atmospheric chemical agents.
Subsequently, a protective and nourishing treatment will be applied to each sculpture. The informational plaques accompanying the busts will be cleaned to reveal the raw golden bronze, enhancing the legibility of the texts, both flat and engraved. The latter will be repainted with enamel by brush and will also receive a protective treatment.
The busts to be included in this maintenance campaign are located in Alameda Apodaca and Parque Genovés, such as those dedicated to Miguel Ramos Arizpe, José Celestino Mutis, Miguel Grau, Arturo Prat Chacón, Francisco Prieto, César Vallejo, José Rizal, Rubén Darío, Juan Pablo Duarte, Ramón Power y Giralt, José Miguel Carrera, José Martí, Manuel de Falla, and Beato Diego de Cádiz.
Additionally, interventions will be carried out on the sculpture of Carlos III (on Paseo de Carlos III), José Moreno de Mora (in front of the Faculty of Business and Economics), Diego Fernández Montañés y Álvarez (on Avenida 4 de diciembre de 1978), Aurelio Sellés (on calle Santa María), José Mejía Lequerica (in plaza de España), the Conjunto Cigarreras de Cádiz (on Cuesta de las Calesas), Antonio Accame (in plaza de Mina), Cayetano del Toro (in plaza del Falla), and José Mc Pherson (in plaza de Mina).
It is worth noting that the Municipal Delegation of Culture's Area of Monumental, Cultural, and Museum Heritage is already working on the restoration and conservation of the sculptures dedicated to Admiral Blas de Lezo and Captain Francisco de Miranda.
