AEMET Warning: Cádiz Braces for First Tropical Nights

The province of Cádiz is bracing for a notable temperature rise this week, with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) warning of the possibility of the first tropical nights starting Thursday, when minimums may not fall below 20 degrees Celsius.

After a period with cooler-than-usual temperatures for late May, the province of Cádiz will experience a thermal increase bringing fully summery sensations. AEMET has issued a warning indicating that nights could become tropical, with minimums exceeding 20 degrees Celsius, while heat intensifies throughout the week across much of the country.
According to Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for AEMET, this week will be marked by «a rise in temperatures, which from Wednesday will reach practically summer values». Temperatures are expected to exceed 32 to 34 degrees Celsius in areas of the northeast, center, and south of the peninsula. Precipitation will be scarce and limited to the far north, with some scattered showers in mountainous areas.
Uncertainty marks the weekend forecast, with scenarios pointing to both a temperature decrease across the peninsula and a continuation of the heat. Rain is not ruled out in northern areas during the final days of the week.
The hottest capitals predicted for this week include Murcia (33 degrees Celsius on Tuesday), Badajoz and Seville (35 on Wednesday), Seville (37 on Thursday), Badajoz (39 on Friday), and Seville (38 on Saturday and 37 on Sunday). Friday is shaping up to be the hottest day, with over half of Spain exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and thermometers reaching 39 in Badajoz and 38 in Seville.
On Friday, temperatures are expected to be between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius above normal across the entire peninsula, and even 10 to 15 degrees higher in the Cantabrian region, the Northern Plateau, Extremadura, western Andalusia, and Lleida. These values could surpass the highest records of the year to date.
The weather will remain stable with a strong anticyclonic ridge, and temperatures will be significantly above the usual values for this time of year. In contrast, cities like Lugo and Santander will experience cooler temperatures.
Thursday and the following early mornings will mark the arrival of the first tropical nights to the peninsula, affecting cities such as Almería, Cáceres, Cádiz, Ciudad Real, Granada, Jaén, Madrid, Seville, and Toledo.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be days of stable weather, with light rain limited to the far north and scattered showers in mountainous areas of Catalonia, Aragon, and northern Valencian Community. Temperatures will progressively rise across almost the entire peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
On Wednesday, a new thermal surge will allow temperatures to reach 30 degrees Celsius in large areas of the northeast, center, and southern peninsular regions. Highs of 30 degrees are forecast for Cáceres, Lleida, and Madrid, while the province of Badajoz could see around 32 to 34 degrees, and the Guadalquivir valley between 34 and 36.
On Thursday and Friday, stable weather and a scarcity of precipitation will continue, with tropical nights in southern peninsular areas, such as Málaga or Almería. Maximum temperatures will exceed 30 degrees Celsius in broad areas, reaching 34 to 36 degrees in the valleys of the Ebro, Duero, and Tajo rivers. Cities like Valladolid, Toledo, Madrid, or Zamora could reach around 34 degrees on Friday, while Zaragoza, Granada, Córdoba, Jaén, or Murcia would exceed 35 degrees.
AEMET spokesperson Rubén del Campo added that «on Friday, cities like Valladolid, Toledo, Madrid, or Zamora could reach around 34 degrees, while Zaragoza, Granada, Córdoba, Jaén, or Murcia would reach or exceed 35 degrees, with even 36 to 38 degrees in cities like Badajoz or Seville. We are therefore talking about Thursday and Friday being practically summer days».
The greatest uncertainty surrounds the weekend, with divergent scenarios. Some forecasts extend high temperatures across the entire country, while others suggest an increase in instability with showers in the north and cooler conditions generally, except in the Mediterranean and the Guadalquivir region, where the heat might persist.
