Ten years have passed since Cádiz CF secured promotion to the Second Division at the Estadio Rico Pérez in Alicante, against Hércules. That goal by Dani Güiza, which ignited Cadista euphoria, remains an unforgettable moment in the club's history.
Álvaro Cervera, the architect of that team, recalls how they reached the promotion playoffs during a challenging period: 'We arrived defeated and weren't winning any matches, not at all.' The coach implemented a strategy based on defensive solidity, managing 'not to concede goals' and overcoming obstacles such as Racing de Ferrol, Racing de Santander, and finally Hércules.

Cervera highlights how that team, built on the idea of being 'a solid unit,' succeeded in bringing enjoyment to the city despite its less flashy playing style. The former coach confesses it was his happiest period as a manager: 'I was very happy. It was the happiest coaching period, beyond winning matches because it was a joy to go and come from the games.' He adds that before the decisive match against Hércules, the nerves were so intense that he himself vomited, a feeling shared by the entire team, but which ultimately led to a promotion that opened the door to further success.
