These actions are part of the Green Infrastructure initiative, approved in January, and are a direct application of the Municipal Fire Plan. Thanks to this contract, interventions have been possible in this natural area to mitigate future risks.
The work covers an area of approximately five hectares, where over 30 pine trees, tamarisks, and junipers damaged by the fire have been removed. Additionally, preventive clearing is being carried out, along with the creation of two firebreaks that divide the area into three sectors, aiming to reduce risk and improve response capabilities in case of a potential blaze.
The execution of these tasks is conducted with a responsible approach to minimize impact on local ecosystems. Before any intervention, nests and burrows have been checked, and forest debris is being shredded for reuse on the site. This measure not only contributes to sustainability but also aids in controlling pests like the tomicus beetle, which affects weakened pine forests.
“"From the Puerto Real City Council, we are working preventively to avoid fires during the hot months in our green heritage."
These preventive actions follow the fire that significantly affected Las Canteras Park, one of the municipality's most cherished natural spaces. The Council plans to study a possible reforestation of this area in the autumn, in collaboration with community groups and citizens, once the terrain's evolution has been assessed.
