The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, and the Spanish Government's sub-delegate in the province of Cádiz, Blanca Flores, have visited the works on the new Las Albinas cultural center. The project, executed by the company Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios SA, is in its final phase and is expected to be operational in the coming months.
The total investment amounts to 1,127,034.55 euros, including VAT. Of this amount, 785,461.10 euros come from the Next Generation EU Funds, allocated to the Plan for Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience and the Program for the Promotion of Public Building Rehabilitation (PIREP). The remaining financing is covered by the City Council.
This new cultural and social facility will be located in a rehabilitated warehouse of approximately 500 square meters, with a focus on energy efficiency. It will feature a main hall with a capacity for 300 people, equipped with a retractable tiered seating system that can be divided into two, as well as two meeting rooms and restroom facilities.
José María Román explained that the rehabilitation will transform the space into a dual facility: on one hand, a sociocultural area with the auditorium and another office space; and on the other, a courtyard that will become a public square, with plans to install an outdoor screen for summer cinema screenings.
The mayor highlighted the enthusiasm for this project, which joins other initiatives developed in the city thanks to the Next Generation Funds, mentioning housing policies, road investments, and the Archaeological Space of Nueva Gadeira. He noted that these actions are transforming Chiclana.
Blanca Flores emphasized the Spanish Government's work in the province with PIREP interventions and other infrastructure projects, stressing that the new facilities promote energy efficiency, sustainability, and habitability.
Juan Antonio de la Mata, head of the Municipal Projects Office, described the project as one of the most beautiful undertaken in the historic center, transforming an abandoned warehouse into a venue that citizens can be proud of.
The project involves the recovery of the warehouse, removing the asbestos roof and improving energy efficiency. An entrance area, restrooms, storage, and a dual space for the public will be created. There will be a first room of 90 square meters for 75 people and another of 155 square meters for 140, both connectable for a total capacity of about 300 people. The warehouse's height will allow for a second floor with two meeting rooms of 40 square meters each.
This project is complemented by a new adjacent public square, funded by Tourist Municipality (Munitur) grants, with an approximate cost of 360,000 euros and a 19-month execution period. The square, covering 1,000 square meters, will connect La Longuera and the city's historic center.
