The deadline for submitting bids for the new collective urban transport service in Chiclana closed on August 17. The estimated contract value is 29,605,158 euros, with a ten-year execution period and an average annual cost of 2,839,000 euros. Funding will come from ticket and pass sales, supplemented by the City Council to cover the total service cost.
Mayor José María Román stated that the offer was admitted after the opening of the first envelope and that the procedures for its award, which must be approved by the Plenary, have begun. He highlighted the importance of this service for the city and the fact that the bidding company has local capital.
The contract includes the renewal of the fleet with vehicles powered by biogas, a commitment to sustainability aimed at reducing pollution and CO2 emissions.
Jose Vera, municipal delegate for Mobility, explained that following the admission of the initial documentation, an engineer will issue a technical report. Subsequently, the economic offer will be opened, and the award proposal will be prepared for approval by the Plenary before the end of the year.
The service will operate with 15 lines, in addition to special services adapted to the city's evolution. The awarded company must employ at least 27 drivers, one inspector, three mechanics, two administrative staff, and one service manager. The minimum fleet will consist of 22 buses, 14 larger ones and 8 minibuses, all powered by biogas.
The awarded company will also be responsible for managing the bus station, with the possibility of expansion through proposed improvements.
