The spokesperson for Izquierda Unida, Ramón Galán, expressed his satisfaction after the unanimous approval in the Plenary session of the Diputación de Cádiz of the motion rejecting the closure of the Correos office located on Quinto Centenario avenue in Río San Pedro, Puerto Real.
Galán argued that public services should be valued for their quality, not just their quantity, highlighting that the removal of this service would create a situation of "significant inequality" for the more than 2,500 inhabitants of the neighborhood.
According to the deputy, the Correos service contributes to "cohesion" among citizens and anchors them to the territory. Therefore, he is confident that the unanimous decision of the Diputación will serve as a "pressure measure" for the central government to reconsider its decision and for the temporary suspension announced to become permanent.
The role of the mayor of Puerto Real, Aurora Salvador, at the forefront of the protests against the closure, and the support of the City Council as a key factor for the suspension of the closure by the central government were also recalled.
