A total of 32 Sahrawi minors have been welcomed at the Chiclana City Council as part of the 'Vacations in Peace' initiative, allowing them to enjoy the summer with host families until the end of August.

The first deputy mayor of Chiclana, Ana González; the municipal delegate for Childhood, Francis Salado; and the municipal delegate for International Cooperation, Susana Rivas, received this midday the Sahrawi children hosted by Chiclana families. These minors are participating in the ‘Vacaciones en Paz’ (Vacations in Peace) initiative, carried out since 1998 by the Sadicum Association. The event took place in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, where a good portion of the 32 hosted minors attended accompanied by the Chiclana families with whom they are staying until the end of August.
Ana González thanked the Sadicum representatives and the Chiclana families for their effort in allowing the minors to enjoy these days, expressing her hope that they “have a wonderful time”. For her part, the head of Sadicum Chiclana, Chari Sánchez, thanked the Chiclana City Council for its involvement and highlighted the importance of the aid received from Social Services and the Alcalá de los Gazules City Council to subsidize the project, which lasts two months and for which they work year-round seeking host families.
Chari Sánchez also mentioned other projects submitted for International Cooperation grants, such as the installation of toilets for people with reduced mobility in the Tindouf camps. Finally, the president of the Provincial Federation of Associations in Solidarity with the Sahara of Cádiz, Antonio García, expressed his pride in seeing the Plenary Hall full of Sahrawi children and noted that the province of Cádiz hosts the most children in Andalusia, with a total of 150, emphasizing the solidarity of the people of Cádiz and the hard work of the associations.
The ‘Vacaciones en Paz’ project allows these minors to spend the summer in Chiclana, enjoying its climate and beaches, and escaping the high temperatures of their home regions, as a reward for their daily effort in school during the academic year. The initiative, which has been running in Chiclana since 1998 thanks to the local Association for Aid to the Sahrawi People of Chiclana ‘Sadicum’, ensures a medical check-up and adequate healthcare, as well as offering them the opportunity to practice Spanish. During their stay, they will participate in numerous recreational, cultural, and sports activities.
