This congress, which will take place at the Camarón Interpretation Center on May 29 and 30, will bring together researchers, artists, journalists, and flamenco specialists. The objective is to delve into the artistic, cultural, educational, and institutional dimensions of Camarón de La Isla's work.
The event's structure will be divided into four main areas: institutional, academic, pedagogical, and artistic. From an institutional perspective, the congress will highlight flamenco's journey from its marginal origins to its recognition as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010, emphasizing the role of key figures and institutions in dignifying this art form.
In the academic field, the meeting will address the growth of university and popular studies on flamenco, with contributions from experts in musicology, anthropology, and cultural history. The pedagogical dimension will explore flamenco's increasing presence at various educational levels, both in Andalusia and the rest of Spain, and internationally, fostering reflection on current training proposals.
Finally, the artistic area will focus on Camarón's revolutionary impact on flamenco's musical evolution. The album La Leyenda del Tiempo will be analyzed in depth, considered a fundamental work in the genre's history and a symbol of the aesthetic openness that transformed contemporary flamenco. His relationship with Paco de Lucía and the influence of his legacy on current flamenco will also be discussed.
Those interested in attending can register through the enabled form, which has been distributed among universities, flamenco chairs, flamenco clubs, and other associations. Sessions can also be followed live via streaming on the official channel of the San Fernando City Council.
The 'Camarón Year' will culminate on December 1, 2026, with a grand multi-artist show at the Movistar Arena in Madrid, featuring prominent figures from the music and flamenco scene. Additionally, next autumn, the Teatro de las Cortes will host the Camarón Awards, recognizing talent in singing, dancing, flamenco guitar, and new creations, in homage to the artist's innovative spirit.
