The feast of the Virgen del Carmen, Patron Saint of San Fernando, is being intensely celebrated in the city, which today marks the central day of its festivities. The main events extend beyond the fairgrounds of Almirante Laulhé Park.
The day began at midnight with the Angelus of Felicitación to the Virgin in the conventual church. At 10:00 AM, the religious service in honor of the Patron Saint was held in the Carmelite temple, followed by a traditional 'besamanos' (hand-kissing) ceremony that lasted until 1:30 PM.
In the afternoon, at 7:30 PM, the procession of praise for the Virgen del Carmen will parade through the city streets. The planned route includes Plaza del Carmen, San Joaquín, Manuel de Arriaga, Real, María Santísima de la Trinidad, Plaza del General Rodríguez Arias, Mayorazga, Lope de Vega, San Bruno, Olivarillo, Santa Gertrudis, Carmen, Real, returning to her temple. The procession will feature a team of bearers led by the foreman José González García and will be accompanied by the Maestro Agripino Lozano music band.
In parallel, the Gallineras nautical club is organizing its maritime procession. After a mass at 12:00 PM in the tent next to the sports marina, the embarkation of the Virgin will take place at 5:00 PM. The maritime procession, with the participation of numerous boats, will reach Punta del Boquerón and return to the marina around 7:00 PM, at which point a floral cross will be offered to the sea and the Salve Marinera will be sung.
The Spanish Navy also commemorates the feast of its Patron Saint with a mass at 10:00 AM in the Panteón de Marinos Ilustres, presided over by the Admiral of the Fleet, José Enrique Delgado Roig. The ceremony will conclude with a military parade in the parade ground of the School of Non-Commissioned Officers.
The fairgrounds of Almirante Laulhé Park are celebrating their third day of festivities, featuring a concert by Radio Makandé at 10:30 PM in the park's auditorium, as part of the City Council's official program.
