The city of San Fernando inaugurated its traditional Las Cortes festival with a flamenco spectacle honoring the legacy of Camarón de la Isla. The concert, held in the Plaza del Rey, featured renowned artists such as dancer Farruquito, singer Montse Cortés, and artist Cristian de Moret, accompanied by Jorge Pardo.
The event, titled 'Remembering the Legend' and part of the Camarón Year, aimed to blend the roots of pure flamenco with the possibilities of fusion with other musical genres, a path pioneered by the local singer.
“"Camarón is a before and after."
Despite gusts of easterly wind that affected the open-air performance, the audience, filling the arranged seats and side benches, attentively followed the acts. The night culminated with the energetic performance of Farruquito, considered one of the most representative figures of contemporary flamenco.
The tribute to Camarón served as a strong opening for the September 24th program in San Fernando, a date the city dedicates to its history and which this year also marked the centenary of the launch of the Juan Sebastián de Elcano.
