San Fernando is preparing for the final day of its Feria del Carmen y de la Sal. The festival's farewell arrives, much like its beginning, marked by anticipation for the World Cup and the possibility of watching the final from the auditorium of Parque Almirante Laulhé. The venue, serving as the municipal marquee, will feature a giant screen, and the capacity has been increased with 800 additional chairs in anticipation of large crowds, similar to those seen at the opening gala or previous finals.
The coincidence of important matches with the fair has so far resulted in a full house at the auditorium and an impressive atmosphere. This Sunday is expected to see a repeat of the large crowds, although the impact of football on the fair's stalls during dinner time may disrupt the usual fair dynamic. The last day, moreover, is anticipated to be more affected by this, coinciding with the eve of a workday.
The city longs to bid farewell to its patron saint festivities with a collective victory, which would mark a historic end. However, there will be no fireworks, making this the third consecutive year without the pyrotechnic spectacle. The decision, made by the City Council, responds to the demands of families with individuals on the autism spectrum and animal welfare groups, seeking greater inclusion and considering environmental risks.
The absence of the 'rockets', which were previously fired from a distant location, has been accepted by the city. Although a drone show has been proposed as a replacement, the municipal government has ruled it out due to the local weather and frequent wind, which are incompatible with such displays. The mayor, Patricia Cavada, justified this decision.
After five years held in provisional venues, the Fair looks towards next year with the City Council's commitment to return to La Magdalena. This year's program has had a farewell feel to the Park, the historic fairground, as a tribute. The weekend nights have been the most crowded, with 37 marquees and concerts at the auditorium attracting a large audience.
