The official start of the Summer Tour ‘Pilamanía 2026’ has seen a notable institutional and civil response in Puerto Real. The initiative, promoted by the Cádiz CF Foundation and the entity Ecopilas, has successfully mobilized numerous committed citizens. In just three hours, nearly 80 kilos of used batteries were deposited, preventing their improper disposal.
The ecological impact of this collection is significant, as it is estimated that approximately 340,000 liters of water have been saved from contamination by heavy metals. This figure is equivalent to the capacity of 132 Olympic swimming pools, highlighting the campaign's effectiveness in promoting sustainable development.
The event featured an innovative ecological auction mechanic, where the weight of the delivered material added value to participants' green "bids." At the close of the stand, Pedro Vera was the winner for delivering the largest volume of batteries, receiving an official Cádiz CF jersey. Ethan Cornejo secured second place, taking home a Samsonite backpack. Other attendees also received institutional gifts.
The Cádiz CF Foundation has thanked the logistical support of the Peña Cádiz CF de Puerto Real, whose collaboration was crucial for the success of the collection.
The objective of ‘Pilamanía 2026’ is to address urgent public health and biological conservation needs. Batteries, common in households, become a serious source of pollution if they end up in organic waste. The chemical components of a single alkaline battery can contaminate up to 167,000 liters of water, releasing heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium, lead, zinc, or nickel.
Following the success in Puerto Real, the Cádiz CF Foundation's Summer Tour will continue its route from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the following locations: El Puerto de Santa María (Monday, July 13), Chipiona (Tuesday, July 14), Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Wednesday, July 15), and Rota (Thursday, July 16).
