The Casa de la Cultura in Chiclana is hosting an exhibition by painter José Dorante from this Thursday until September 29, featuring twenty works that blend abstract, figurative, and hybrid styles with a strong reivindicative character.

The Gessa Arias hall at the Casa de la Cultura serves as the venue for this new exhibition, which gathers 20 works by artist José Dorante. The exhibition is characterized by its diversity, encompassing styles from abstract and figurative to hybrid, aiming to be felt through the tactile closeness of the material and the emotional breadth of color, as well as through a more human and reivindicative profile.
During the inauguration, the delegate for Culture, Susana Rivas, highlighted the exhibition's variety, stating that "color is one of the most present features in José Dorante's work". She also emphasized the diversity of registers, including landscapes, realistic paintings, and abstract works, with different textures and techniques.
The delegate also focused on the presence of two portraits titled ‘Infancia rota’ (Broken Childhood), describing them as "an example of the reivindicative character that Dorante also likes to work with through his art", reflecting "the need to defend social justice" in difficult times for societal evolution.
For his part, José Dorante explained that the exhibition is a "compendium of many things", beginning with a "reivindication of the problem that childhood is currently suffering, but also from times past". The artist mentioned situations in Sudan, Palestine, and South America, asserting that "everyone, from their field, must have a bit of an obligation to denounce these situations".
The exhibition proposes a journey between the intimate and the natural, the sensory memory of the territory, and the emotional expressiveness of the body. Each piece is articulated with deep attention to texture, chromatic vibration, and atmosphere, inviting visitors to contemplate beyond literal representation.
The landscape works, including forests, meadows, mountains, seas, and paths, offer a reading of the territory that seeks to evoke feeling rather than description. In the figurative ensemble, the human presence appears distilled, essential, evoking tenderness, silence, motherhood, and introspection. The more abstract works act as bridges, exploring the energy of pure color and the expressive force of line and material.
The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
