The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, accompanied by the delegate for Education, María José Batista, and the head of Social Services, Francis Salado, visited CEIP El Trovador to supervise the start of the school year.

The mayoral delegation, along with representatives from the school's management and the AMPA, as well as FLAMPA, checked the progress of the classes for the 6,841 students in the Second Cycle of Infant and Primary education in Chiclana. Of these, 2,055 are in Infant education and 4,786 in Primary.
The mayor highlighted the importance of the day and thanked the teaching and non-teaching staff for their work, describing the management of approximately 9,000 minors across Infant, Primary, and Secondary education as "no minor matter." Román requested "understanding among families."
Furthermore, the mayor expressed concern over the PISA report's findings, which indicate a decline in subjects like mathematics and reading. He advocated for "returning to the culture of effort" and championed "Education for all, regardless of economic possibilities," in addition to working to eradicate school dropout, which in Andalusia stands at 15 percent, above the national average.
José María Román reiterated the need to continue demanding "issues as important as aid with PTIs for students with special educational needs, reducing student-to-classroom ratios, not the number of classrooms, or ending child poverty." He recalled that Chiclana decades ago had a "very significant illiteracy rate," a situation that "has fortunately changed, although there is still work to be done."
For the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, the Chiclana City Council has carried out various refurbishment actions in Primary education centers and improvements to access points. Horizontal signage has been painted near primary schools and secondary institutes, and patios and wooded areas have been cleaned.
The Urban Maintenance Delegation has invested 200,000 euros in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of public schools. Interventions have been carried out at CEIP Los Remedios (repair of leaks, replacement of window frames, cracks, fencing, and facade painting), CEIP Isabel La Católica (repair of walls, interior painting, cornice, leaks), CEIP Tierno Galván (patio leveling, rainwater drainage, coating repairs, adaptation of cleaning staff room, removal of pilasters, repair of false ceiling and pumping well), CEIP El Castillo (repair of fencing, facade painting, wall restoration, door and frame replacement, and frame replacements), CEIP Las Albinas (waterproofing of roofs and cornices, repair of vertical and horizontal coatings, and perimeter wall), CEIP Carmen Sedofeito (waterproofing of entrance porch, repair of cracks, exterior painting, repair of pillars and downpipes, structural repairs of beams and joists, construction of a section of wall, waterproofing of structural joint), CEIP José de la Vega (structural repair of cornices and gymnasium facades), and CEIP Federico García Lorca (repair of interior and exterior coatings and installation of a sliding protection door).
Additionally, at CEIP La Barrosa, exterior railings and entrance gates have been repaired and painted, and at CEIP Al-Ándalus, the old guardhouse has been structurally repaired, coatings and painting have been addressed, and a room affected by humidity under the emergency stairs has been removed, with existing pavement repaired.
The Urban Maintenance Delegation is preparing a new project with another 200,000 euros to continue with repair and painting work in the city's educational centers.
