The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, and the president of the Association for People with Intellectual Disabilities La Fundación, Mª Carmen Lema, have signed a collaboration agreement whereby the City Council grants the entity 18,720 euros. The event was also attended by the delegate for Social Services, Francis Salado, and representatives from La Fundación, Mª Carmen Lema and Patricia Quiñones.
This financial amount is earmarked for the development of the ‘Integral Autonomous Living Program’, which aims to improve the lives of individuals residing in the occupational center, during the period between January 1 and December 31, 2026.
José María Román highlighted that the entity was a pioneer in the city in managing disabilities, mentioning its evolution from a day occupational center to the current residence, a necessary resource for the care of these individuals. The center houses nine residents, who are attended by monitors and participate in scheduled activities.
The mayor emphasized that the residence provides a dignified life, with companionship and autonomy, and highlighted the work of collectives like La Fundación for the well-being of the community.
Mª Carmen Lema explained that the project has been running since 2021 and offers a solution for many families, especially for individuals with economic difficulties at home. She noted that the delays in processing public places by the Junta de Andalucía create stress for families, and expressed gratitude for the City Council's support.
Patricia Quiñones thanked the Chiclana City Council for its collaboration and the work of the Social Services Delegation. She described the residence as a 'supported living flat' where autonomy is fostered and integration into city activities is promoted, always under supervision.
