The first deputy mayor, Ana González, and the sub-delegate of the Spanish Government in the province of Cádiz, Blanca Flores, have presented the valuable document. The exhibition is taking place in the lobby of the Museum of Chiclana and will be available until the end of this year.
Restorer Eduardo Martínez has treated the Royal Decree for its better preservation, carrying out cleaning tasks, framing, and creating a special case. These measures will protect the fragile original from wood-boring insects, which had already notably attacked it, as well as from humidity and prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light.
"Tomorrow we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the title of City, but throughout the year we are carrying out various activities to celebrate this special event for Chiclana, including this exhibition of the original Royal Decree signed by King Alfonso XII," stated Ana González, who highlighted Eduardo Martínez's work.
Blanca Flores emphasized the support for the commemorative events and the opportunity to show the public this document, which recognized the importance of the wine sector in the municipality. She thanked all those involved in the commemoration, coordinated by Cristóbal González, including the Museum's director, Jesús Romero.
For his part, Jesús Romero explained that the Museum has organized temporary exhibitions on Chiclana and the 19th century, and that more pieces will be exhibited in the coming months. Additionally, the original document will be cleaned and deposited in the Municipal Archive for its better conservation.
The original document will be transferred to the Municipal Archive at the end of the year, being replaced in the Museum by a facsimile reproduction and a digital restoration that will facilitate its reading, overcoming the gaps left by time. The Museum has produced a limited edition of one hundred numbered copies of this restored version.
The exhibition coincides with the eve of the 150th anniversary. On Saturday, August 8, at 11:00 AM, the institutional ceremony will be held in La Vega street, with the unveiling of a mosaic in honor of D. Leopoldo de Alba y Salcedo, a key figure in the granting of the city title, on the facade of the current Central Pharmacy.
During the ceremony, a representation from the Maestro Enrique Montero Municipal Music Band will perform the anthem of Chiclana, and the mayor will close the event with an institutional declaration.
In the evening, at 9:30 PM, the performance of La Verbena de la Paloma will take place in the Plaza Mayor, with the participation of about a hundred artists. Attendance is free until capacity is reached, and it is recommended to arrive in advance.
