Student families, local residents, and municipal political representatives gathered this Monday to reiterate that the need for a new primary school in Casines remains a priority. The educational community emphasizes that, despite the Junta de Andalucía including the project in its Educational Infrastructure Plan in 2017, only the first phase, corresponding to the infant school, was completed in 2020.
“"We want them to know that we have not given up. We still need, now more than ever, the primary school in Casines."
Families lament the lack of essential facilities such as a gymnasium, assembly hall, library, sports court, and an expanded dining room with its own kitchen, all of which were included in the original design. They highlight that Casines contributes almost 25% of the birth registry in Puerto Real, making the project's stagnation incomprehensible.
The mayor of Puerto Real, Aurora Salvador, and other local political representatives, such as socialist councilor Pedro Olmedo and the spokesperson for Andalucía por Sí, Alfredo Fernández, showed their support for the protest. The mayor recalled that at the beginning of the legislature, there was a budget for the work, but the regional administration allowed the deadlines to expire. The spokesperson for Andalucía por Sí pointed out that the Puerto Real City Council fulfilled its part in 2014 by ceding the land and facilitating the necessary building permits.
“"All that's left is for the work to be put out to tender so that construction can finally begin. We will not stop until we achieve it."
The demonstrators, who also included the spokesperson for Adelante Andalucía, Antonio Gil, announced that they would escalate the case to the Children's Ombudsman. The goal is to activate all possible mechanisms to force the Junta de Andalucía to react and fulfill a project that, they claim, only requires political will and regional investment.
