The Cathedral of the Assumption of Jaén has been recognized as a Magical Place of Spain 2026, a distinction awarded by the Pueblos Mágicos de España initiative. This award was received by the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture and Tourism, María Espejo, during the VI National Meeting of Pueblos de España held in Padrón (A Coruña), which gathered over 350 attendees.
The network of Magical Places of Spain, aimed at highlighting historical and heritage sites, has expanded its list from 18 to 32 recognized spaces, incorporating 14 new corners across the country, including the Jaén cathedral. This designation underscores the temple's architectural value, considered a jewel of the Spanish Renaissance and a model for cathedrals in Latin America.
“"To focus on Jaén and the great hallmark of this city."
María Espejo emphasized that this appointment "constitutes a wonderful loudspeaker to promote Jaén's heritage wealth" and expressed the hope that the cathedral will be recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Taking advantage of the meeting, she invited attendees to discover Jaén's tourist offerings, including its natural surroundings, via ferrata, climbing routes, Santa Catalina Castle, and its gastronomic excellence, backed by four Michelin Stars and the recent designation of Jaén as one of Europe's ten gastronomic cities for 2027.
The provincial capital thus positions itself as a key destination where historical heritage, nature, and gastronomy converge, further strengthened by its title as the World Capital of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
