The First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture and Tourism, María Espejo, along with the president of the Lola Torres Association, Desirée Amaro, presented the new edition of the festival this morning. Espejo highlighted the significance of this event, one of the most cherished and deeply rooted, which brings our traditions to the forefront.
This year, alongside the hosts Lola Torres, two guest groups will perform: the 'Francisco de Goya' Choir and Dance Association from Madrid, presenting historical pieces like the Fandango de Candil and the 'manteo del Pelele' ritual, and the Mallorcan group 'Aires d'Andratx', with 40 years of impeccable experience in reviving Balearic folklore.
The Culture Councilor also recalled the trajectory of Lola Torres, "one of the most emblematic cultural institutions that has been spreading Jaén's folklore and traditions for 50 years." For her part, Desirée Amaro thanked the Patronato de Cultura and Councilor María Espejo for their "commitment to our traditions and folklore," noting that the invited groups share dances with Jaén, such as boleros and jotas, among other dances.
Amaro explained that the groups from Madrid and Mallorca are members of FACYDE (Federation of Choirs and Dance Associations of Spain), which attests to their quality in researching, preserving, and disseminating folklore. "We will see those Goya-inspired performances on stage, and our colleagues from Mallorca, even though it seems a distant territory, will surely perform a bolero that sounds familiar to our own," she stated, emphasizing the "interculturality and identity that blend among us all."
The Lola Torres association has prepared this show "with great care," featuring jotas, fandangos, seguidillas, and boleros. They also expressed gratitude to the audience, "because without the people and their public, this association would be nothing."
