The campaign, promoted by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) with the collaboration of the Jaén City Council, focused on accident prevention through the control of driving distractions. The majority of the sanctions, 28 in total, were related to the use of mobile phones while driving.
The Councilor for Local Police, Javier Padorno, thanked the work of the Local Police officers and the Civil Guard's Traffic Group who participated in the initiative. Padorno emphasized the importance of these campaigns, highlighting that improper mobile phone use is one of the main causes of distraction and raising awareness about the risks of taking attention away from the road.
According to DGT data, 1,785 people died on the roads in Spain in 2024, 30 more than in 2019, representing a 2% increase. Additionally, 9,561 people were registered as hospitalized injured (an 11% increase), and 125,084 people were injured but not hospitalized (a 4% decrease).
The councilor stressed the importance of maintaining attention while driving and avoiding any behavior that could compromise road safety. The Jaén City Council will continue to collaborate with the DGT on future surveillance and awareness campaigns.
